A Facebook post circulating this week reminds readers that this time of year is hard for many people. I imagine the glut of sentimental holiday movies and special programming along with torrents of advertisements encouraging perfect gifts and decor only magnify feelings of isolation for those who are far from loved ones, missing someone who has passed away, dealing with health issues, worrying about finances, living in fear.
Some years I've gone all out on decorations and festivities, and others I've done little of either. This year is the latter. Decorations are Christmas stockings and displayed cards. Gifts are of time: time visiting family in NC, time helping out at our church's Christmas services, time dining, laughing, and reminiscing with my parents, time watching silly holiday movies with G. And time giving thanks for the only perfect gift of the season: Jesus.
It's more than enough.
