October 18-24
  • Sunday 18th: Began with Sunday school; Kathleen's back and brought me letters from Bea, Froy, and Yeh. Will need a translator because there's a lot of text. Made pork chop and slaw dinner which was good, despite chops being in freezer for 18 months. Good news: old frozen chops won't make one sick (but they weren't as moist as they could have been.) Told the folks Tom and Diane plan to drive down after Thanksgiving.
  • Monday 19th: Class this morning; feeling frustrated about Kim - homeless, clueless, disorganized...visited Kathleen to get letter translated; nice catch-up chat about Cuban friends and so many prayer needs there and at home. Back to yoga tonight; have a feeling I'm going to be feeling some of the moves tomorrow.

  • Tuesday has already faded in my memory, probably because the time between classes was devoted to UCF interns. Did catch up with DWTS, though. And some vino.
  • Wednesday 21st: Went to El Leoncito's with yoga group. Truly enjoyed chatting with everyone and getting to know them a little better. Celebrating the October birthdays, and the card they gave me was perfect.
  • Thursday 22nd: Got to see Ariel! Unexpected surprise, because I knew he'd only be at Kathleen's for a couple days, but he FB messaged me and I zipped right over. Forgot to take picture -- duh. Hopefully I'll see him next month when he returns.
  • Friday 23rd: Willie began puking and liquid poo-ing. Ugh. Really happy to see Friday come around though; having split schedule obligations Mon-Fri is really tiring me out. Have gotten in a bit more exercise this week, though, and G and I did 2.5 mile walk tonight.

  • Saturday 24th: Mark Higginson's memorial service; it was lovely. Jim Gavatos was there, along with other faces I remembered from my earlier days at IRCUMC. Doug came down for church, which was nice. Hung out with G in the evening. Willie still has runs, but is eating and active.

October 11- 17

For no good reason, I felt a bit blue this week. Lots of nice things happened, and I am richly blessed, so there's no good reason for the feelings, but there they are.
  • Sunday 11th: no church or Sunday school today; had creme brulee French toast with the folks before driving Josh and Krystal to the airport. G left to spend a couple days in Tampa with pal Parker. I had lovely dinner with Rebecca and Sherry at El Leoncita, which turned out to be surprise for my birthday. Good chat, good food, nice gifts to bring home. Loved it.
  • Monday 12th: New writing class today - 75% larger than last class. After class I cleaned out Jason Higgenson's pantry and brought salvageable products to IRC. Skipped yoga (blues)
  • Tuesday 13th: Morning and afternoon classes as usual; G returned home
  • Wednesday 14th: Morning class - student numbers haven't settled yet; skipped line dance and yoga (still have blues); spent afternoon with UCF interns on Skype; Joyce Randall came by for visit in the evening. When she left, G and I began catching up on recorded shows. Brightest spot: saw that Mocha-Chino is being adopted! Tears of joy about that; feel like God is reminding me He is still in control and working for the greater good.
  • Thursday 15th: Relieved it's last day of classes and my calendar is open this weekend. Janice called in sick, so I subbed for her class, which shortened my planning time. Finished up organizing all the papers and materials for the EFSC classes, which I had been avoiding. That felt good.
  • Friday 16th: FREEDOM! Got on scale and (no surprise) weight is creeping back on. To be expected after weeks of ice cream and packaged food and insane quantities of wine. So, began with 25 minute walk and warm lemon water. Vowed (again!) to lay off wine and get back into healthy eating patterns. Laundry; catching up on some FB - okay, lots of FB - and some prayer time. Got some miscellaneous tasks done, including registering for Corgi picnic, but didn't make as much use of the day as I could have. Did fix reasonably healthy dinner and took another walk afterwards.
  • Saturday 17th: Began day with lemon water and walk; good start! G and I went to flea market in Melbourne, where I bought a keyboard! What?? Really?? Yes, my new 60th year ambition is to be able to play this instrument. Went to church this evening and asked Sharrett to give me lessons. Wonder if that will actually work...got home and my Vanessa Keys Corgioke print has arrived! Now I have both my Corgi indulgence purchases -- the Corgi nubbins arrived last week.

Anne Lamott's comment sums up this week for me. I'm ready to work again.

The Year Begins...

Picture Last day of 59th year
October 2-3, 2015

Lunch at Crackerjack's with Mom and Dad on Friday. Nice view, good food, happy way to begin my birthday weekend. The evening line dance party was a disappointment: 1 good hour of mostly dancing followed by 45+ minutes of watching advanced dancers dance. Left early feeling disgruntled again. Concluded I'm at an awkward point in the dancing; I'm not a beginner and can't invest enough time to be advanced.

Saturday G and I took the furkids and Subway take-out to SandPoint Park where we walked around and picnic-lunched. Really a perfect way to end the year.

OCTOBER 4, 2015

Worship and Sunday school (The Truth Project) is the perfect way to begin my 59th birthday. I left flowers at Mom's on the way home (gift for her pain 59 years ago.) G and I saw The Intern at Merritt Island Mall, followed by a ginormous dinner at Longhorns (which doubled as the next day's dinner, too!) Came home to find the sign plastered on our door; they're so silly. CBS provided the finishing touches with the season premiers of Madam Secretary and The Good Wife. I'm ready to do this!

October 5-10

Interesting week. G did neighborhood patrol.
  • Monday: morning class, evening yoga, Anthony arrived for visit with folks, finally met Joyce Randall during a nice visit while G napped.
  • Wednesday: morning class and yoga, but opted to skip line dancing. Feeling like the frustrations are beginning to outweigh the enjoyment, I've decided to take a break. I haven't officially declared that, except to George. Had nice evening visit with Anthony.
  • Thursday: Between morning/evening classes, I went to Higginsons' to pack up Mark's clothes and clean oven. Also started floors and cleaned Mark's bedroom. Jason is grateful for my contributions; I am happy to be able to provide some useful service
  • Friday: cleaned house in preparation for Josh and Krystal's visit. Also made that teeth-rotting creme brulee French toast
  • Saturday: wonderful day! Picked up Josh and Krystal, had good visit with folks, dinner at my house - Edd joined us - up late chatting with Krystal.
